An opportunity to take a lesson from world-renowned Chinese Brush painter Henry Wo Yue-Kee was too good to pass up. His workshops typically last 4 days, with the option to take only a day or two if you prefer. So I signed up for Day 1. Chrysanthemums and grass orchid were the day’s subjects.
Just watching Mr. Wo paint was such a joy. Approachable, humorous, and full of wisdom, he made the 5-hour class zip by. Special thanks to my art teacher Darlene Kaplan–who has studied under Mr. Wo for some 30 years–for bringing this workshop to my attention and for hosting the session.

I’m still working on the paintings I started in class…re-starting, again, and again, trying to get that effortless look while continuing to bask in the golden experience of watching a master.
