Obsessing on Physalis Alkekengi

A painting by an amazing artist I stumbled upon online got me thinking about painting what are often called Chinese Lanterns.

I’m nuts about orange anyway, so their delicate blooms are already something to admire. The other artist paints in a “meticulous” style, not the looser style in which I work. But I was determined to give the subject a try.

I tried three different types of paper and finally settled on a circular soft shikishi.
