Bubble Eye Fish

The idea for these little fishies came from The Chinese Brush Painting Bible by Jane Dwight. This is a book I occasionally consult even though I’m not necessarily drawn to the styles the author-artist employs. But her paintings and instructions can spark interest in tackling a new subject or getting started on a tricky critter for which I have nothing else to go by.

I used a linen-look paper from Hmayart.com. It was easy to paint on, but not as absorbent as other papers for the water-wash. Live and learn!

I like the ‘focusing’ effect of the converging fishies and the swirling willow…..nicely done! I find JD’s Bible serves much the same purpose—helpful illustrations for newbies as well as more experienced painters much of the time.
