Revisiting Mums

After a workshop with Chinese master Henry Wo, I decided to do another mum painting for a special friend. While some people might prefer the inclusion of a bird or a koi, I decided a butterfly worked best with this painting.

The mood seal roughly translates to self-sufficient, or independence. I chose that message both for the butterfly and the giftee. The fact that I’m giving her the painting on Independence Day is pure coinky-dink!

I hope that you could tell by my reaction how thrilled I was to receive this painting! I cannot think of a more special gift. As an artist, I’d have a hard time parting with my creations. I love knowing its significance—and am honored by both the gift of the painting and its special message.
