Bamboo Umbrella

A few months ago, somebody posted a painting of an adorable black and white bird with vivid red beak on one of the Asian art Facebook pages I follow. That was my inspiration for this painting on soft shikishi.

While my painting turned out quite differently, I think the red beaks and snow make for a suitable winter holiday greeting. I have no idea what kind of bird this is –perhaps a Eurasian magpie? The tail isn’t long enough for a magpie, is it? Any thoughts?
