Pursuing a Creative Outlet

When I discovered Chinese Brush Painting, sometimes referred to as Chinese watercolor, I was immediately obsessed. It’s a close cousin to sumi-e. And the style that I practice blends traditional Eastern with Western impressionism. For my works, I typically grind my own ink, mix my own colors, use traditional “rice” papers, and try to imitate as best I can the classic strokes and styles of the Lingnan School.

More recently, I was mesmerized by a random article in Financial Times about Henri Roché handmade pastels. Their story and the intense tones of the pictured pastel sticks started me on a quest to learn this vibrant medium. Now, I’m hooked!

Please feel free to comment with constructive criticisms, and share your own works. If you’re interested in seeing more of my paintings, shoot me an email and I’ll send you some photos. Email: jeclark55@gmail.com
