In My “Blue” (Jay) Period
A workshop with Henry Wo Yue-Kee a couple of years ago inspired me to figure out blue jays. I’m still struggling, but am having fun trying a couple of different compositions.

Inspiration From the Shore
A few days of solitude on Chincoteague Island and its wonderful wildlife refuge, along with a Zoom class that focused on egrets, inspired this painting. It’s painted on mulberry paper, with many of the natural fibers visible. I think they add a nifty bit of texture to the work.

Getting Into Metallics
A recent 2-hour class with OAS’ Lorean Weng made use of a set of “Starry Colors”— golds, coppers, and silvers — that I bought awhile back but never opened. Seeing the effect the golds had while painting a plum branch on white paper inspired me to try them on a sheet of dark blue soft
